Surf & Science Academy

We offer an innovative alternative to traditional school for TK-8th Grade in Huntington Beach, California. Our Surf and Science Academy Enrichment Program is an up to 5-day a week, 30-week full year annual schedule, where students will spend their mornings with Little Surf Co. honing their surfing skills in a group setting with our top notch surf instructors.

Students will participate in enrichment activities which consist of attaining ocean and safety knowledge, growing their understanding of the ocean by learning from our Ocean Education Speakers, learning about proper health and nutrition, and building their strength, endurance, agility, core, and mental discipline through conditioning and circuit training.

Students may choose to complete their core academics and extracurricular classes at our LSC Learning Center after our morning program.

*In addition, we host two Surf Competitions during the year (one in the Fall and one in the Spring) that Surf & Science Academy students can participate in at no additional cost.

MORNING SURF & SCIENCE ACADEMY PROGRAM

LSC Learning Center

Join us for our 30-week LSC Learning Center for TK-8th Grade! All Core Academic subjects and our extracurricular morning courses will be taught indoors in a classroom all year long. Students have the option to partake in our boutique classes: Business + Leadership on Mondays, ELA + Mathematics on Tuesdays/Thursdays, Science + History on Wednesdays, or Art Studio + Workshop on Fridays.

*all Students who attend the little surf co. institute, are able to partake in a handful of field trips throughout the year that take place on some Wednesdays and Fridays.

Classes cap off at 15-20 students consisting of one primary teacher and floating Teachers Assistants as needed. We truly embrace the Homeschool Hybrid Philosophy, having students get into break-out groups on core academic days to focus on grade level specific content.  The program meets from 11:15am - 2:45pm daily (after our morning Surf & Science Academy or morning enrichment courses). Students meet for academic blocks with lunch in between. In addition, teachers will provide students with an at-home supplemental curriculum to ensure full completion of their studies.

This comprehensive 30-week program is broken up strategically giving students ample time in class to learn the necessary information for their studies.

*Transportation to the classroom is included for those who attend our Morning Surf & Science Academy beforehand. Students will hop on our 15 passenger Mercedes Sprinter Van and head over to take their classes.

*After Registration, an interview process may take place prior to acceptance into the Little Surf Co. Institute.

Course Descriptions

MONDAY:

Business & Leadership 

In Monday’s dynamic courses, students will explore essential business and leadership concepts through three focused blocks: Entrepreneurship, Public Speaking, and Financial Management. Each block is designed to build practical skills through real-life scenarios, encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Through small group projects, interactive activities, and hands-on challenges, students will gain a well-rounded foundation in business while strengthening leadership skills for their future. 

Tuesday/Thursday:

ELA & Mathematics 

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students engage in a supportive learning environment designed to strengthen essential ELA and math skills across all grade levels, from TK to 8th grade. In ELA students develop writing skills, improve reading comprehension, and study novels to deepen their understanding of literature. In mathematics, they are challenged through problem-solving activities that build critical thinking and real-world application. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and collaborative learning, students build confidence while advancing their academic skills in a fun and enriching setting.

Wednesday:

History & Science 

On Wednesdays, students explore the fascinating worlds of History and Science through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. In History, students dive into past civilizations, important events, and influential leaders while developing critical thinking and research skills. Through discussions, projects, and interactive activities, they gain a deeper understanding of how history shapes the present and future. In Science, students investigate the wonders of the natural world through experiments, scientific inquiry, and real-world applications. They explore topics like life sciences, earth sciences, and physical sciences, fostering curiosity and a love for discovery.

Friday:

Art Studio & Workshop 

On Fridays, students dive into a project-based experience that blends creative expression with hands-on craftsmanship. In Art, students will complete around 10 projects, exploring a variety of artistic techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. They will study influential artists and apply those lessons to their own work, developing their unique artistic voices and building a portfolio of their creations. In Workshop, students will complete approximately 10 hands-on projects, including woodworking, jewelry-making, and other craft-based activities. Some of these projects are STEM-inspired, while others focus on practical skills, creativity, and teamwork. Students will work together and individually to design, build, and create functional and artistic pieces, fostering collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation. This project-based day encourages students to think critically, express themselves creatively, and work as a team to bring their ideas to life.



Little ocean explorers preparatory program


Our 30-week Little Ocean Explorers Preparatory Program offers a hybrid indoor/outdoor learning environment that fosters creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration. Through play-based activities, children will develop essential skills while having fun! In our indoor classroom, filled with engaging materials and play centers, children will be encouraged to enhance their creativity and curiosity. In our outdoor classroom, whether it's hands-on stem exploration, gardening, or observing nature, children will have the opportunity to learn through real-life experiences. We aim to prepare children for their educational journey ahead, laying a strong foundation for future academic success and a lifelong love for learning. We hope your little one can join us this fall!

 We focus on both early childhood development, as well as environmental education. Our goal is to help create happy, healthy children by focusing on the whole child through an indoor/outdoor learning space and utilizing hands-on activities to allow them to become innovative in their approach to learning. This philosophy towards learning will set the stage for a successful grade school environment.

Class will be taught by a primary teacher to help guide your child through their exploration and learning process. This program runs September through May on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11:15am-2:45pm for kiddos age 3-4 years old.

MORning enrichment courses + beach programs

Join us for our Morning Enrichment Courses! We offer various elective-style classes from 9:15am-10:45am that will get students excited about learning with a hands-on approach.

*They are designed to be paired with either our LSC Learning Center courses and/or our Surf & Science Academy.

**Students in Morning Enrichment will be placed in 1 of 3 grade-based levels, ensuring activities and classroom dynamics fit their needs.

Music Monday:

Offered Monday morning 

A music class designed for all ages and skill levels, offering hands-on activities to explore rhythm, melody, and music theory. Students will develop their skills through instruments, singing, and learning to read and understand music. Whether building a foundation or advancing their techniques, this class provides a supportive environment for everyone to grow their love for music. (*held at the lsc Learning center)


Wonderful Readers:

Offered Wednesday morning 

Students will develop essential reading skills through focused lessons on phonics, technical reading strategies, and vocabulary, creating a dynamic learning experience that inspires a love for literature! In this engaging class, young readers will participate in reading buddy sessions, extra ELA (English Language Arts) practice, and targeted activities aimed at strengthening their reading proficiency. Intro to Dance:

Offered Wednesday morning

We’ll dive into the basics of movement! This class is perfect for those new to dance, focusing on fundamental techniques, simple choreography, and building a solid understanding of body awareness and rhythm. Our instructor will provide a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, making it an ideal starting point for any kiddo to explore the world of dance. (*held at the lsc Learning center)

Conversational Spanish: 

Offered Tuesday & Thursday mornings 

In this engaging and dynamic class, students will embark on a 30-week journey to learn practical Spanish for travel and exploration. Geared towards young adventurers with a passion for surfing and travel, the focus will be on building conversational skills that will help students navigate Spanish-speaking countries confidently. From booking accommodations to ordering food, asking for directions, and making friends with locals, students will be prepared for the real-world situations. (*held at the lsc Learning center)


Drama Club: 

Offered Friday mornings 

In this fun and interactive drama club, kids will explore the world of theater & acting through games, skits, and storytelling. They’ll build confidence, develop creative expression, and learn essential acting skills like voice projection, character development, memorization, and improvisation. beach yoga: 

Offered Tuesday & Thursday mornings 

Our yoga classes are tailored for children of all ages, offering a structured introduction to the principles of yoga. Led by our certified instructor, this program focuses on fostering physical well-being, flexibility, and mindfulness in a developmentally appropriate manner. Key elements include enhancing motor skills, building strength, and developing a foundation for a healthy lifestyle. (*held at the lsc beach headquarters)


Athletic Training Academy:

Offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday Mornings 

The Athletic Training Academy is designed to help current and future athletes develop the strength, endurance, and core stability needed to excel in any sport. Meeting between 1-3 mornings a week, this program offers students a structured, high-energy environment that combines athletic drills, games, and lifelong fitness habits.
